Elina+Salvatore
Their Story
Salvatore and me met each other on 31st of January 2008. That was the day when magic happened. I was on my way to London to visit a dear friend of mine. I was not feeling great at the time. Fashion academy was not what I had expected and I had breaking myself loose from un unhealthy relationship just some months before. So my “English gentlemen” friend Mark offered me a ticket to come and see an exhibition of his. He is an installation artist and makes the most interesting work, so I said yes. I put myself on the train to Brussels zuid to catch the Eurostar, destination London. As always, when I’m travelling, I’d prefer being on time, like my mom, which means a couple of hours in advance. Sitting there waiting made me thirsty so I decided to purchase a bottle of water from the vending machine. Now, it was just a coincidence that their was not any still water left in the machine that day, since I, back in those days, did not like sparkling water. But I was really thirsty so better sparkling than nothing I thought. I put my coins in and the bottle came rolling down towards me. I picked it up and realized that it was time to approach the train. I was walking down and I had the feeling I was the first one approaching my coach. I got on and as a surprise I saw someone already sitting there. How was that even possible? I stumbled down the isle and got a quick eye contact with the young man sitting there, and it felt like my heart stopped just for a second. Such a handsome guy I thought. I quickly passed him and recollected my thoughts. I took another look at my ticket to see which seat number I had, and as a chock I slowly realized that my seat number was next to his. I stumbled back and kindly, but stiff, asked the young man to move his bag so I could get seated. After being able to breath normally again, I needed my water to clear my dried throat. I took the bottle out of my bag and opened it without paying attention to the sparkling water inside of it. And just, as a nightmare, the water flue on to him like a water spreader and we got both all wet. I looked at him and immediately apologized for what just happened. He looked up with a smile and said: That’s what happens when you shake the bottle first. And I replied with a worried tone: I didn’t, I’m sure and I am so sorry.
From that moment the ice was broken and we started to talk and did not stop until he gave me a kiss on my cheek just before leaving, making sure we had each others email address first and a promise we would stay in touch. And in touched we stayed.
